The Virginia Museum of Natural History (VMNH) is located in Martinsville Virginia. Founded in 1984, its mission is to “interpret Virginia’s natural heritage within a global context in ways that are relevant to all citizens of the Commonwealth.” The VMNH features award-winning permanent and temporary displays and provides artifacts and traveling exhibits for education and display throughout the state of Virginia.
The Museum is considering development of an affiliated regional facility in the City of Waynesboro. The VMNH envisions a regional museum that can feature the unique geographic characteristics of the Shenandoah Valley and become a catalyst for growth and continued development in the community and surrounding region.
Since 2011 the City has been working with the Museum, Waynesboro Downtown, the Center for Coldwaters Restoration, and other interested parties on a number of foundational projects to bring this dream to fruition.
